Hi, I'm Michael! I recently graduated from Harvard University with a degree in physics and archaeology. I am now a Master's student at University College Cork studying towards a degree in Celtic Civilisation. While physics and archaeology seem quite different, on a fundamental level both fields involve solving puzzles. This is why I love tutoring in physics and maths, both of which are topics embedded with puzzles. I have tutored a number of students who believe that they are simply unable to understand the material at a high level. However, I genuinely believe that with proper instruction every student is capable of understanding physics and maths in an intuitive way. I work to demonstrate this reality in sessions by never giving away the answer to a problem; I instead use leading questions to help the student understand the problem as a whole instead of just the answer. I believe that physics and maths provide a language to understand our universe, and I hope to show my students how much fun it can be to solve puzzles in these two subjects and to use those solutions to understand the world around us. While I hope I have communicated above my love of physics, math, and Latin and my love for teaching those subjects, it's also important to know my qualifications. I have a Bachelor’s degree in physics and have taken courses in classical mechanics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, optical/laser physics, quantum information, general relativity, and the philosophy of physics. I have also pursued research in the field of atomic, molecular, and optical physics. Regarding maths, I have studied multivariable calculus and theoretical linear algebra in structured class environments, and I have also learned to apply this math through my physics courses. As for my teaching credentials, I have been teaching and tutoring in physics, maths, and other topics for eight years. Most of my experience has been with one-on-one tutoring in physics and maths. Topics I have tutored in include classical mechanics and electrodynamics, at both secondary school and university levels, as well as in linear algebra and calculus. I also have experience in large-class environments; I was employed for two semesters as an undergraduate course assistant in classes on quantum mechanics and electrodynamics, respectively. Outside of the classroom, I've recently taken up handball, I've dabbled in creative writing, and during the summers I work as a sailing instructor.

I am currently a member of the Dublin Symphony Orchestra, and I perform regularly in venues such as the National Concert Hall, Dublin, National Opera House, Wexford and University Concert Hall, Limerick. I also take part regularly in masterclasses, including the Austrian Master Class for chamber music in Salzburg. I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Trinity College Dublin, and a Higher Diploma in Music Education (Honours) from Griffith College Dublin. I also obtained a Senior Certificate in Piano, Cello and Musicianship from the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
